Churches of Northamptonshire


Brixworth Church, famous for its impressive Saxon architecture The county of Northamptonshire has some particularly fine Saxon and Early English churches. This weekend tour will include visits to the outstanding examples at Brixworth and Earls Barton with their fascinating Saxon construction methods that make use of Roman building materials.

Further visits will include Rothwell Minster church with its notable bone crypt and Fotheringhay, birth place of Richard III.

Highgate House, venue for the Northamptonshire churches weekendOn Sunday we will concentrate on the churches and chapels of the town of Northampton itself. These sites range from the fine Early Norman church of St Peter 's to a seventeenth-century meeting house at Castle Hill. This will be followed by a visit to Great Brington, the chapel of the Spencer family and the site of many beautiful monuments.

This weekend is based at Highgate House a striking country mansion in the picturesque village of Creaton, with impressive four-star accommodation.
