Abbeys of the Witham Valley
Saturday date TBC
Lincolnshire has a number of fascinating monastic sites, stretching from Thornton in the north to the Deepings in the south. Several are found along the line of the River Witham. Our new study day will explore these interesting sites and review their foundation, history and later dissolution. We will make several site visits, where evocative remains hint at a vanished way of life when the worship of God was paramount to the clerical and secular world alike. There are few standing remains left on these important ecclesiastical sites, but the associated earthworks help to tell the story of these once great buildings.
This day will start with an illustrated talk at the Lincoln Cathedral Centre in Lincoln, followed by coffee. We will then visit Barlings, Bardney, Tupholme and Kirkstead Abbey sites. We will also have a brief visit to Bardney church.

Hidden Churches and Chapels of Lincolnshire
Saturday Date TBC
Lincolnshire has some of the best small parish churches in the country. Religious worship has always played a major part in the life of Lincolnshire and scattered throughout the county are many delightful churches and chapels. During thei day tour we are planning to visit six churches including a number opened specially for us. These will range form the tiny Tudor brick church at Goltho with its 18th century wooden interior to the Methodist chapel above a stable at Raithby Hall, where Wesley preached in 1788. We will also visit the perfect Palladian-style church of St Margaret's at Well set in beautiful parkland and St Peter & Paul at Langton-by-Splisby with its unaltered Georgian interior.
