HERE is the itinerary and details for our Wealth of the Wash tour which was run in May 2010. This tour will be run again next year so if you want to reserve a place get in touch using the Contact link and we'll put you on the list and let you know the date and details later. On the right are pictures from the tour:

The land around the Wash has brought forth wealth for hundreds of years. Lynn’s St Margaret’s church was founded by the first Bishop of Norwich and Bishop’s Lynn only became King’s Lynn at the Tudor Reformation. The town has been a great port for centuries and was once part of the Hanseatic League. The wool and cloth trade with the continent in C15th earned the monies that built ecclesiastical masterpieces here and in the nearby settlements.

Walpole St Peter’s is arguably one of the finest churches in England

We shall visit the fine town church of Swaffham, part funded by the famous pedlar whose dog is several times commemorated beneath the double hammerbeam angel roof; Gooderstone St George with a superb set of C15th benches and remarkable rood screen; Oxborough St John, though partly ruined in 1948 by the spire’s collapse, has a remarkable collection of Tudor terracotta memorials; Stow Bardolph’s Hare monuments include one conserved by Madame Tussaud’s; Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalene’s medieval glass and Wiggenhall St German’s wonderful bench ends complete our Saturday trip.

On Sunday we travel west to Tilney All Saints with its Norman details and breathtaking angel roof; Terrington St Clement’s central tower was never built so a detached tower stands next the imposing west front, while within extraordinary furnishings include the font cover and 1635 boards bearing the Creed and Lord’s Prayer.

Walpole St Peter’s is arguably one of the finest churches in England, though this did not deter the congregation from sheltering their horses in the processional vault!  We return to Lynn for lunch before  completing our itinerary at St Margaret’s church.
