Please note the tour on 27-29 April 2007 is now fully booked. But don't despair!
As our churches weekend is so popular we will be repeating this itinerary
on the weekend of 12-14 October 2007 - please contact us for further information.
We are offering a unique opportunity to visit some of the most splendid churches of Lincolnshire.
This ever-popular weekend tour will take you to some of Lincolnshire's most beautiful and interesting churches. Focusing on some of the outstanding but lesser known churches to the south of Lincoln.
We have arranged for many of these beautiful buildings to be opened specially for us. During the weekend we will explore several churches in the lovely stone-built villages of the Lincolnshire ‘cliff edge'.
Amongst the churches we plan to visit is the church at Hough-on-the-Hill with its mighty Saxon tower and semi-circular extruding staircase (one of only four in the country). We will also visit the grand medieval church at Brant Broughton described as ‘the best of all Lincolnshire churches' by Simon Jenkins! Why not come and make up your own mind?
A stop for lunch in the pretty village of Caythorpe will give us an opportunity to visit the church, with its unusual central arcade, and other village buildings. Over the weekend we intend to visit at least seven churches including Heckington, in the decorated style, and Straglethorpe, a little medieval church hidden away in a farmyard with an eighteenth century interior.
The weekend starts on Friday evening with a glass of wine and introductory lecture. Saturday is spent touring to each of the sites with a special tutor. There will be time for a pub lunch and stops for coffee & tea. The social side of the weekend continues with dinner in Lincoln on Saturday evening. Sunday morning there are further visits to more exceptional churches.
What's Included:The lecture, dinner and accommodation are all based in the historic uphill area of Lincoln close to the magnificent Cathedral; there is just time in the weekend for you to squeeze in a visit if you have the energy!
The cost of this weekend break is from £245, inclusive of accommodation.
